Want to view your Revit Rooms in 3D? You cant in Revit... Use DynamoBIM

Have you ever tried to view your rooms in Revit in a 3D view? You cant do it.

Use DynamoBim!
Its free and easy to use.
Its ridiculously easy to do. Simply follow the steps below


Download dynamo here or if you already have it click on the "addin" tab
Once dynamo is open
Cant find them? type the names in the search bar

Step 1
drop down these 3 nodes as shown and wire them up....
(Catergories,All Elements of Category, Element.Geometry)

Step 2
Then Click Run

....a 3D view of your Revit Rooms!!!!!



Still Hesitating?


If you dont know anything about Dynamo it does not matter just follow the steps above.

If you are  worried that you may change the Revit model then it does not matter because Dynamo will show you the rooms and NOT change the Revit model

If you are asking if it is really that easy to show the Rooms in 3D then the answer is yes its really that easy.

    How is that any different than using a room legend with a color scheme?

    Marcello, I guess Johnathan is asking if colors can be applied to the 3D geometry created by Dynamo, based on the properties of the room used to create the 3D geometry.
    Is there a way to do that? It will make this process incredibly useful during initial design phase.

    Yes however I want to clarify that
    In this post we are only "viewing" the 3d geometry in dynamo not making 3d rooms in Revit (nothing was created in Revit)

    If you want to add color to 3d rooms as you were asking...

    You first have to create 3d room geometry in Revit then add color (rooms in Revit are only 2d)

    With all that said I will make a new post showing how to do what you are asking.

    What if I want to review them by each individual level. Would we add a Level node, and if so where?

    Is there a way to troubleshoot missing rooms?

    Odd,
    I follow the instructions and nothing shows in my 3D window...
    the Var[] shows a list of the solids, they just don appear...

    What version of Dynamo are you using?
    you may need to update your graphics card... that was my problem initially.
    if the solids show in the list then they are definitely in Dynamo.
    perhaps switch to the background preview mode in the lower right corner and then right click on the canvas and select, zoom to fit...
